A Delicate Harmony

I bought a cone flower from the local nursery and brought it home to use as a reference for painting. I did a contour drawing of the plant in charcoal on Strathmore multi-media paper. I painted over the drawing with clear gesso with Golden’s acrylic pastel ground and pumice added to the gesso to create a textured surface. I laid in large areas of color with fluid acrylic for an underpainting and finished the painting with several layers of soft pastels.
