Dark and Stormy

My inspiration for this piece came from a girls weekend at the beach. We planned a weekend of Plein air painting but to our dismay a Huge storm came thru. We ended up sitting in the beach house, as beautiful as it was...watching the howling wind, rain, and waves that grew larger by the hour. By the afternoon, I decided to get out & take as many photos as I could. My friend and I wrapped up and headed out. The power of the waves and the wind was swirling from one direction to the other. It was absolutely exhilarating.
Once home, I chose gesso, applied in layers for heavy texture of the foam on the wave . My goal was to capture the strength and power of the wave pulling up the surf just before crashing on the beach...
