Shenandoah Mountain Stream

Shenandoah Mountain Stream is based on a photo I took in the Shenandoah Mountains of a waterfall and stream. I chose to zoom in on the rocks in the stream in the foreground of the photo. I began with a preliminary sketch, changing the position of some of the rocks for a better composition. I then drew in the 5 main rocks on the white sanded paper, using light applications of yellow, orange, purple and green colors to block in the painting. Using isopropyl alcohol and a paint brush, I spread the colors around to cover the white surface. I then layered the colors, using some finger smearing to soften the underwater moss covered rocks and shadows. Squiggly mark making suggests the rushing movement of the water.
