For over 130 years, sheep farming played an important role in New Zealand’s agricultural industry. In 1982, the sheep population of New Zealand reached a peak of 70.3 million but as dairy farming overtook it, the sheep population declined and as of 2017, the numbers have dropped to 27.5 million
