This painting was completed with pastels only on UART 400 sanded paper. As I live in between several marinas on the Potomac River in Virginia, I can usually be found there watching the sunset in the warmer months. This piece employed the painterly approach to mark making while using a complementary color scheme. A value under painting was washed in with alcohol and layers built up with a loose hand. I hoped to convey the calm that was felt from that sunset at the marina in a fresh, inviting way.
