Dry pastel on a pastel and alcohol wash underpainting
The white Annabelle hydrangeas were so plump and luminous that I just could not resist painting them. It was a hot day and I wanted to paint in the shade. I made a bouquet, put it in the sunshine on a white tablecloth in the garden. The subtle variations of white, light violet and warm pink and the bright green grass were challenging and at the same time so refreshing to paint. It was a lovely afternoon!
